I'm a 2021 Finalist with Miami's City Theatre

My play, REALITY CHECK, is a 2021 Finalist in the annual City Theatre National Short Playwriting Contest. Founded in 1996, City Theatre is the only professional theatre in the country dedicated to the discovery, development and production of short plays and musicals. The company has produced or presented more than 1000 plays in a robust variety of programming, year-round and for all ages. Its annual City Theatre National Contest for Short Playwriting exists to honor and recognize talented playwrights, reward excellence in dramatic writing, increase the visibility of this delightful genre, and provide professional opportunities for playwrights.

The company receives 800+ play and musicals submissions for its National Contest. City Theatre’s evolving programming and audiences offer numerous opportunities for Contest plays and playwrights, meaning Finalist scripts might have ongoing consideration beyond the year of submission for paid professional readings, production opportunities with royalties, commissions. Finalist Playwrights are invited to attend SUMMER SHORTS and CityWrights Industry Weekend. The WINNING Contest playwright receives a production, royalties, a cash prize of $1,000, and a trip to Miami. The 2021 Contest Finalist plays are written by well-known, mid-career and emerging new voices, and feature an exciting breadth of theatrical styles, storytelling, and production possibilities.

I'm a Finalist for The Bechdel Project's Roo Residency

The ROO Residency is a one-year residency that will support the creation of new work for the stage or screen. In this inaugural year, the focus will be on scripts that illuminate or bring forward untold stories from history that center on women. The residency is open to feminist writers (of any intersection) who are looking for support to create or develop a new work based on women from history or a historical event with a feminist lens.

The residency will be largely directed by the writer themselves and, as such, will be the most beneficial to writers who understand their process and what works best for them, but early-career writers are also encouraged to apply. They will have access to the Bechdel Project spaces in Greenpoint Brooklyn (unceded Lenape lands) for writing, workshops, and readings. They will also have access to the Bechdel Project staff, who will provide support in any additional ways they can, from feedback to networking and producing.

With over 50 years of combined experience in arts management, advocacy, and the creation of new work, Bechdel Project is ready to move nimbly to deliver a unique blend of art, activism, and education.
